Hi, all. My name is Russell Foltz-Smith. I am techie, entrepreneur, analyst, math guy, dad, husband, baller, gamer, goof ball and all sorts of other things.
Social Mode is my attempt at writing down my analysis and thoughts (others contribute now too!) on media, society, business, and human behavior. I’ve been involved in projects in the last 8 years requiring deep thinking in how media, connectedness and behavior come together to form businesses, change culture, improve education. Rather than pine away in solitude, it’s now time to blog it out and get some discussion going.
This is not a tech blog nor a pundit sorta thing. It’s an integrated approach to connecting the dots in our business and social lives. Sometimes technical, sometimes academic, sometimes whitepapery, sometimes buzzworthy. The goal is to ask and answer questions with ever increasing accuracy and drive at what’s really going on in this complex web/world.
Russ is the friggin man! I’d go into battle with him anytime and will always consult him before anything I do that requires an ounce of brains.
I just happened upon this blog and have merely scratched the surface….right away I’m intrigued, and that aint easy to do. So far it’s very agreeable, and that’s unusual. I’ll read on.
Thanks spyder!
I write what interests me and every so happens it interests others. I don’t write for ad revenue and I think that helps keep the thought free and untethered.
Dear Russell,
I am an aspiring start-up tech entrepreneur with an idea for a mobile app that is based on your domain name (Social Mode). I am not sure if you would be interested in selling the domain name and if not, I am wondering if you can become my co-founder since you have background also in entrepreneurship and tech. I am currently looking for a developer to transform my idea into a working app. Let me know if you are interested and would like to possibly start working on it early next year.
Thank you for your time!
Ben
Hi,
I’ve stumbled upon your blog while searching Google for Mathematica content. You seem pretty enthusiastic about it! There’s a growing community of Mathematica users currently at http://mathematica.stackexchange.com/ – part of the Stack Exchange network. We would be glad if you checked it out!
Take a look around, ask a question if you want to, or answer one. You have to register, but it’s free.
Hope to see you there,
CHM.
Discovered your blog through your Shadows post. I too am from Aurora and now live in Austin, TX. Small world!
Russell,
I just read your writing about surviving the shooting at your job, at age 17. Comments were closed at Huffingtonpost. How and where can I leave a comment for you to read. Am I right in guessing you are 37 now? My comment would be to share an experience, of a different nature, that involved gun violence.
Thank you for reaching out. Here’s the original post you can comment on
